A striking new installation exploring the sustainable potential of natural stone has taken centre stage at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025, with the latest expression of The Stone Tapestry unveiled this week in Clerkenwell Green, just a short walk from Farringdon station.
Set opposite The Crown Tavern, this year’s Stone Tapestry is designed to spark conversations around the reusability, versatility, and enduring sustainability of natural stone — widely regarded as nature’s original low-impact building material.
A Celebration of Craft and Circular Design
Created as a collaborative effort between architectural practice Squire & Partners and the Stone Federation, the installation showcases how natural stone can deliver bold and understated designs, with textures that range from delicate to robust — all while offering circularity through reusability and minimal environmental impact.
The installation serves not only as a design piece but as a hub for dialogue, inviting architects, interior designers, engineers, and clients to explore natural stone’s role in sustainable construction and low-carbon architecture.

Raising Awareness of Natural Stone’s Role in Sustainable Design
With sustainable construction high on the agenda across the built environment, The Stone Tapestry highlights how natural stone can meet modern sustainability targets while offering beauty, longevity, and creative freedom.
As the debate around embodied carbon and material reusability intensifies, the installation acts as a live case study of how natural stone supports circular economy principles, making it a material of increasing interest to future-facing designers and developers.
Clerkenwell Design Week 2025 continues throughout the week, offering a platform for design-led innovation and sustainable thinking in the architecture and interiors sectors.
